Recounting the harrowing incident, Nurulaini said she and her husband were sleeping downstairs, while Nurnazatul Fasiha was upstairs. As for Mohd Waldon, he was up and awake in the living room with his friend.

I was suddenly awakened by a loud noise that shook the whole house… then I saw a trailer inside. It was dark as my husband and I tried to locate our children.

“I was scared, panicked, and shocked by the whole incident. Seconds later, some people, including neighbours, came to help us,” she said.

Nurulaini added that her daughter, whom she calls ‘Najah’, was working for the Welfare Department in Maran and had taken an extra day off to spend more time with the family before returning to work on Monday.

“I lost my children and my family house which we have been staying since 2008. The house is completely damaged,” she lamented.

Trailer driver tests positive for drugs

Meanwhile, Pekan district police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the 40-year-old trailer driver was travelling Johor Baru to Kuantan prior to the crash.

He added that the driver is believed to have lost control when navigating around a bend and swerved into the opposite lane before crashing into the house on the right side of the road and landing on its side.

“The driver tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine and will be remanded today once he’s discharged from Pekan Hospital,” he said.
