A woman has sparked discussion online after sharing her disappointment over being served an RM15 ice lemon tea in a plastic cup at a restaurant despite expecting glassware.
In her post, she questioned how a drink priced significantly higher than typical iced lemon tea could be served in a disposable plastic cup, especially when other diners appeared to receive theirs in glass cups.
According to her, she did not mind paying more for food and drinks at an upscale restaurant, but felt that the service and presentation should reflect the price charged.
She added that when she raised the issue, staff explained that they had run out of glass cups.
However, she claimed the restaurant was not full at the time and that other tables were still being served drinks in glassware.
The woman also clarified that only her table and three accompanying friends were served drinks in plastic cups, while others continued to receive theirs in glass cups.
“I don’t mind if a place usually uses plastic cups, like certain casual eateries. But it feels odd when a restaurant charges premium prices yet still uses disposable cups,” she wrote.
Her post drew mixed reactions from netizens.
Some agreed that customers paying higher prices should expect better presentation and consistency in service, while others felt that using plastic cups for cold drinks was not uncommon and should not be a major issue.
In response to comments suggesting she should have simply accepted the situation, the woman maintained that her concern was not about the price itself, but about the mismatch between what was charged and what was delivered.
She added that if staff were aware of the concern, they could have proactively changed the cup without needing to be prompted.
