A Malaysian woman in her 30s never expected to become an older sister again. But that was exactly what happened after her 51-year-old mother was confirmed to be pregnant.
Nur Amira, the eldest of three siblings, shared the unexpected family news on TikTok, where a short video showing her mother attending a pregnancy check-up quickly went viral, amassing close to one million views.
In the clip, Nur Amira expressed disbelief at the idea of having a sibling at her age, while her mother, Ayati Hussin, jokingly insisted that the baby belonged to Nur Amira instead.

Behind the light-hearted moment, however, was a period of uncertainty for Ayati, who initially did not realise she was pregnant.
According to Nur Amira, her mother began feeling unusually tired, unwell, and lost her appetite.
She also spent more time resting at home, assuming the changes were linked to her age.
When Ayati eventually decided to take a pregnancy test and received a positive result, she was stunned.
She had not expected to conceive at 51, especially after previously experiencing several pregnancies that did not progress.
Still processing the news, Ayati took a few days before telling her children.
According to Sinar Harian, she initially believed her irregular menstruation was a sign of approaching menopause and worried about how her children would react to the unexpected pregnancy.
Her husband accepted the news calmly and viewed the pregnancy as a blessing that came when they least expected it.
As for Nur Amira, she said she was genuinely happy for her parents despite the large age gap between her and her future sibling. She even joked that she would gladly help take care of the baby if all goes well.
While the viral TikTok drew an outpouring of well wishes and prayers, Nur Amira acknowledged that not all comments were positive. Still, she chose not to dwell on them and hoped instead that people would continue to send kind thoughts to her parents.
Nur Amira added that her mother is scheduled to return for a follow-up check-up at a health clinic in two weeks to monitor her health and the baby’s development.
