When this Malaysian woman’s mum was transferred to a government hospital in Sarikei, she was honestly quite nervous.
She feared there wouldn’t be enough doctors, was worried about a lack of hospital beds, and felt unsure about the facilities in a small-town hospital.
On top of that, her mum needed surgery and she was terrified the operating theatre would be fully booked, delaying recovery.
But what happened next totally shattered her expectations.
The hospital was way bigger than I imagined, and there were so many doctors! I didn’t have to worry about not getting treatment at all,” she wrote on Facebook.
She praised the doctors for being professional and the nurses for being kind and patient — even making sure every patient was taken care of properly.
She also noticed the meals were thoughtfully planned with balanced nutrition.
But the biggest shock? The bill
After 6 days of hospitalisation, multiple checkups from specialists every day, medication, surgery, and even two ambulance rides — she was expecting the worst when it came to the bill.
I was mentally prepared to fork out at least RM700 to RM1,000… but guess what? The total was only RM202!”
She was so shocked she even asked the nurse to double-check the bill.
If the same procedure was done at a private hospital, she estimated the bill would’ve been at least five figures.

“This experience changed how I view Malaysia’s public healthcare”
She ended her post by thanking the medical staff at Sarikei Hospital for giving her mum the best recovery opportunity possible after such a scary incident.
