With the new school term slated to begin in a few days, parents are scrambling to secure transportation for them at a rate that they can afford.
A woman recently took to social media to share her disbelief over a driver’s rates and asked netizens whether it was reasonable or not.
M’sian woman shocked by RM400 monthly fee for school transport
In a Threads post by @energy_baz, she posted a screenshot of a conversation she had with a driver on WhatsApp.
In the conversation, she asked the driver whether he was willing to send her kid, who would be the sole passenger, to school every Monday to Friday, to which the latter answered in the affirmative.
When the OP asked what kind of vehicle would be used and how much it would cost per month, the driver said he would be sending her child with a car for RM400 per month.
Upon hearing this, she immediately declined the driver’s services, adding that the RM400 monthly fee was beyond her budget.
In the caption, she wrote: “I was shocked when I saw the price. Normally what is the price range to send your kid to school for a distance of less than 10km?”
She later clarified in the comment section that the exact distance was 6.4km and that she was looking for a driver to drop her kid at school only.
Netizens debate over issue
In the comment section, netizens offered differing views on the matter and debated whether the RM400 monthly fee was justified or not.
Some were stunned by the rate and agreed with the OP by saying that it was too expensive.
However, some argued that this was the normal rate considering the fact that the driver was taking his own car to send the OP’s child to school, with one claiming that rates could go as high as RM600.
Meanwhile, another advised the OP to send her child to school on her own if she really wanted to save on transport expenses.
