In Malaysian culture, certain drinks such as teh tarik and kopi o’ are ‘pulled’ (‘tarik’ in Malay) by hawkers in order to give the drink an extra foamy touch to it.
While most stalls offer this service at no extra cost, a stall in Sibu, Sarawak, is making many raise their eyebrows after it charged a woman for requesting her drink to be ‘pulled’.
M’sian woman shocked by RM0.70 charge for ‘pulled’ coffee
In a photo shared to the Facebook group ‘LAHAD DATU KINI’ on June 9, the woman showed a receipt outlining how much she was charged by the stall.
Based on the receipt, she had ordered a cup of coffee that cost RM4.30, where an additional RM0.70 was added to it as she had asked for it to be ‘pulled’.

Needless to say, the woman was stunned by the extra charge and quipped in the caption: “Life must be hard these days. Even when I asked for ‘pulled’ coffee, I have to pay for the ‘pulling’ too.”
Netizens amused
Netizens couldn’t help but to also be tickled by the stall charging for what is widely considered to be a simple form of service.
‘Good thing he only ‘pulled’ the drink once. If he did it 10 times…ahahahaha.’

‘Pulling drinks is a skill, so you have to pay.’

Meanwhile, a netizen joked that this would set a precedent for stalls to charge customers RM0.50 for sending their order from the kitchen to their table.
