A Malaysian woman recently sparked heated debate online after posting a five-word statement: “not coming to Kelantan again”.
While the post appeared brief, it quickly drew criticism from some netizens who accused her of being racist.
She later clarified that her statement was based purely on her personal travel experience and not directed at Kelantanese people as a whole.
I was scammed badly during my trip. This is about my experience, not the people. Which part of my post is considered racist? It’s just five words,” she wrote.
She then listed the reasons behind her frustration.
Batik purchase allegedly turned out fake
According to her post, she bought a “3 serangkai” wide-sized kain batik for her mother at Pasar Siti Khatijah.

She claimed the tag and label looked original and the price was similar to authentic pieces, so she did not inspect it at the shop.
However, when her mother checked it at home, she allegedly realised it was fake.
The woman said the fabric felt thin and different from previous batik purchases made in Kedah. Her mother, who has worn the brand for years, could immediately tell the difference.
Stale keropok & disappointing lekor
She also claimed that she bought six packets of keropok sira after being told it was new stock. But when she got home, she alleged that all the packets were stale.

In another incident, she stopped to buy keropok lekor on the way to Pantai Cahaya Bulan. As there were no testers available and she was rushing for a flight, she purchased it based on the seller’s assurance that there were no other shops nearby.
She later said it “didn’t taste good at all.”
Dispute over rental car fuel charge
The woman also questioned a RM15 deduction from her rental car deposit.

She said the vehicle was handed over with three fuel bars and an estimated range of 170km. When she returned it, the range showed 150km, a difference of around 20km.
She was charged RM15 for “insufficient fuel.”
“I’m not saying I don’t have the money, but the price doesn’t make sense,” she wrote.
She apologised & highlighted positive experiences
Following backlash, she apologised if her post offended anyone.
She emphasised that her best experience in Kelantan was the food, which she described as delicious.
She also gave a shoutout to her best friend’s parents for hiring local vendors for a wedding, praising the catering.
Additionally, she mentioned enjoying breakfast at Kopitiam Kita, particularly the roti titab.
Some netizens say her reaction was valid
While some criticised her, others defended her right to share her experience.
One user wrote that her explanation made sense and that anyone would be upset after such incidents.
Another self-identified Kelantanese commenter said they would also feel frustrated if they experienced similar situations.
Others shared similar experiences, particularly regarding pricing differences when speaking in different accents, though they clarified that not all shops behaved that way.
