Earning an honest living is never an easy thing to do, especially if it requires one to be sell food by the roadside both in sunshine and rain.
A woman recently took to TikTok to call upon netizens to support an elderly woman’s nasi lemak business after she found the latter falling asleep while waiting for customers.
Saw makcik falling asleep while selling nasi lemak
In a photo posted by @_kakpinat, it showed the makcik dozing off at her stall, which had several packets of nasi lemak sitting on a table but there were no customers in sight to buy them.
In the caption, the OP wrote that the makcik became tired while waiting for customers under the hot sun and urged netizens to lend their support by purchasing nasi lemak from her.

“She’s not looking to be rich, but she simply wants to sustain herself. Her nasi lemak‘s sambal and prawn curry is delicious too.
“Please support her as she rides her bicycle to do business and she’s selling nasi lemak for only RM1.50 per packet.”
‘She reminds me of my late mum’
Speaking to WeirdKaya, the OP said she was on her way to Kulim with her husband when she saw the makcik falling asleep at her stall.
“I wanted to buy some nasi lemak so I told my husband to turn back. It was 10am and the sun was shining directly on the makcik, which caused her to doze off.
I felt sad to see her like that as it reminded me of my late mother. My mother was also a nasi lemak seller and that was exactly how my mother looked when business was quiet,” she recounted.

The OP added she bought all of the nasi lemak that were both on display and stored in a separate container so that the makcik could return home to rest.
“I later decided to make a TikTok video of the makcik sleeping with the hope that she would have customers every day. Even if it were to reach a small number, it would still be enough.”
Long lines at stall
To the OP’s surprise, her video has since gone viral and now there are long lines appearing at the makcik’s stall, as shared by netizens in the comment section.

Many thanked the OP for showing kindness towards the makcik and also sent well wishes to the makcik too.

If you wish to support the makcik’s business, you can head over to her stall at Simpang Tiga Ara Kuda (opposite the Aceh Ara Kuda Muslim cemetery) in Penang.
