A woman recently took to social media to air her discontent towards her father for his stingy attitude towards his own family both at the workplace and at home.
This has left her feeling deeply frustrated and upset as she claimed he only acted this way towards the family but not outsiders.
EPF, Socso benefits nowhere to be seen
In an anonymous post, the OP wrote that she worked under her father for several years, where she was paid RM3,000 monthly to do tons of tasks and endure endless scolding.

She added that not once was she paid EPF or given Social Security Organisation (Socso) benefits by her father—both of which are mandatory under Malaysian labour laws.
“My father’s an extremely successful businessman who’s only generous towards outsiders but not his own family.
“This is because he always believes that his hard-earned money would be wasted by his kids and wife,” she wrote.

Disastrous overseas trip
Things only got worse when the OP’s family travelled to England to see her younger brother who had just graduated from university.
Throughout the trip, her father kept throwing cold water by commenting how unnecessary the trip was or calculating how much things cost in Ringgit.
Tensions got to a boiling point during a hotpot meal, where the OP’s father demanded that each of his kids pay 20% of the bill.

“Initially, we refused and he immediately put on a sour expression. But as soon as I said that I would foot the bill, he immediately cheered up and told us to start ordering,” she wrote.
The OP also said her father would become upset whenever he had to file income taxes and would take his anger out on her.
‘I’m stuck being poor’
Tired of her father treating her as “free labour”, the OP told him to be less stingy lest he drives more people away with his miserly attitude.
Instead of heeding her advice, her father got upset and berated the OP, leaving her feeling helpless and trapped.

‘I’m really tired of this. While many have left my dad and became rich, I’m stuck being poor as I’m his daughter,” she lamented.
Netizens sympathised with the OP’s predicament and urged her to take drastic actions by reporting her father to the Labour Department for failing to pay EPF and provide Socso benefits.

On the other hand, some called for a reconciliatory approach and encouraged the OP to see the situation from a different perspective.
‘You’re not an employee, and your dad’s nurturing you to be his successor even though his methods are harsh on the surface. He will grow old one day and eventually the company will be yours. If he didn’t act the way he did, you wouldn’t handle your money well.’
