M’sian Woman Quits RM11K Job To Protect Her Mental Health, Chooses 4-Figure Pay Instead

A Malaysian woman recently sparked discussion on Threads after revealing that she willingly took a major pay cut for the sake of her mental health.

In her post, she shared that she decided to go from a five figure salary to a four figure one, calling it her “last salary for 2025” and hoping that 2026 would be a better year ahead.

She even attached a screenshot showing her final drawn salary of RM11,116.12.

“I am not tired of the workplace. I am tired of doing sales.”

Many Malaysians assumed she must have been working in a toxic environment. One netizen asked whether her workplace was the reason she left.

The woman clarified that her decision had nothing to do with a toxic work culture.

She replied that she was simply exhausted from working in sales and wanted to explore something entirely new for a change.

Netizens related strongly to her decision

Her post quickly attracted comments from others who shared similar experiences of leaving high paying jobs to protect their wellbeing.

One commenter said they had been through the same thing and that life became much better once they learned to be grateful and let go of stress.

Another wrote that mental health can take a hit quickly in sales, adding that anxiety and depression can creep in without warning. They wished her well in her new job.

A third netizen shared their own story of earning RM3,500 at the age of 20, which was considered high at the time because the basic salary was RM900. Despite that, they still quit due to constant stress and being on call even while sleeping. Their last experience was getting scolded, which pushed them to leave for good.

While taking a massive pay cut might seem shocking to some, many Malaysians resonated with her choice.
