In a dramatic turn of events, a woman’s scheme to extort money from her husband has landed her in jail.
Syuzzana Yahaya, 32, along with her lover, Mohd Feardous Osman, 42, demands RM2,000 from her husband through a fabricated kidnapping plot.
The plan, however, unraveled, leading to a court sentence of three months in prison and a fine of RM2,000.
According to Kosmo!, Magistrate Nur Azzuin Abdul Moati handed down the sentence after Syuzzana admitted her guilt when the charge was read by the court interpreter.
In contrast, her accomplice, Mohd Feardous, pleaded not guilty to the same charge.
According to the charge sheet, the duo used WhatsApp to send a threatening message to Zakaria Mohd Nooh, 41, instilling fear to compel him to transfer the money.
The extortion attempt occurred at a house in Pekan Nanas on 26 July at 12.14pm.
The message demanded RM2,000 be transferred into an account and included threats of starvation or harm to Zakaria’s family if he involved the police.
Both Syuzzana and Mohd Feardous were charged under Section 385 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years imprisonment, a fine, or caning, or any combination thereof.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurezzati Zaini, while both accused were unrepresented.
Magistrate Nur Azzuin sentenced Syuzzana to three months in jail and fined her RM2,000, with an additional three months imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
Meanwhile, Mohd Feardous was granted bail of RM5,000 with one surety, with the case set for further mention and document submission on 2 September.
