In times where division often makes headlines, stories of genuine compassion still shine through, reminding us of what truly matters.
A recent post by local humanitarian Uncle Kentang (Kuan Chee Heng) has once again reminded Malaysians of the power of compassion, especially across racial lines.
In his Facebook post, Uncle Kentang shared that he received a call “like a miracle” from a woman working in the Social Work Department at Serdang Hospital.
Her plea? Urgent help for an 86-year-old Chinese man who was at risk of starving.

“He might slowly starve if this continues”
The woman explained that the elderly man’s family had not been providing him with the proper nutritional milk powder, something he needed to survive.
“If this continues, he might slowly starve,” she told Uncle Kentang, describing the situation as extremely pitiful.
Although she had already begun applying for aid through official channels, it would take at least two weeks to arrive.
Not wanting to wait, she reached out directly even though the man wasn’t her relative and came from a different racial background.
She was determined to help.
Uncle Kentang steps in

With the hospital’s private pharmacy running low on stock, Uncle Kentang personally went to Big Pharmacy to purchase the needed milk powder.
The total cost came up to RM400, fully covered by public donations made via TNG eWallet.
Thank you to every one of you, you just helped save an 86-year-old Chinese man from poverty and hunger,” he wrote.
Public encouraged to visit

He also shared the elderly man’s address:
No 7275, Jalan 18/10, Taman Sri Serdang, and called on community leaders or kind-hearted individuals to check in and provide further support.
This small but powerful act touched many online, showing that kindness doesn’t need to come from someone familiar, just someone who cares.
