Indulging in a trending dessert can be exciting, but sometimes, expectations don’t match reality.

Recently, a Malaysian woman decided to try a viral “black premium cake” priced at RM39, only to be disappointed when she discovered it covered in mould upon arrival.

Wanted to see if it was worth the price

TikTok user @chamiebasir shared her experience in a video posted on 19 March, sparking debate among netizens about the cake’s quality and steep price.

“Most sellers price it between RM12 to RM15. I wanted to see if RM39 was justified,” she explained.

Excited by the fast delivery, she was eager to try the cake.

However, her excitement quickly turned into disappointment when she unwrapped the package. She was surprised to find the cake wasn’t placed in a box but simply wrapped in bubble wrap with a sleeve.

“Shouldn’t it come in a box? Why is it packed like this?” she questioned.

As she unwrapped the cake, she noticed white patches covering its surface.

“Even though they shipped it early, there’s white stuff all over it,” she pointed out.

When she sniffed the cake, she noted that it lacked the rich aroma expected from a premium dessert.

“It smells like a regular chocolate cake,” she said, comparing it to another similar cake she had purchased earlier, which didn’t have the same issue.

Ate it anyway despite the mould

Despite noticing the mould, she decided to scrape off the affected parts and eat the cake anyway.

“I don’t know when this was made, but I’m still going to eat it. Hopefully, I won’t get a stomachache,” she said.

She then poured the chocolate ganache over the cake and took a bite. While she found the ganache thick and not overly sweet, she felt the cake itself didn’t live up to the “premium” label.

Summing up her thoughts, she captioned the video: “Kek hitam premium by Fendymojo. To me, it’s not worth it.
