For some families, ringing in the New Year means squeezing into packed countdown spots and braving massive crowds.
But for one Malaysian woman, welcoming 2026 was all about comfort, safety, and a sky full of fireworks viewed from above.
She recently went viral after sharing videos of fireworks lighting up Kuala Lumpur from a high floor hotel balcony, revealing that she spent RM1258 for a one night stay just to enjoy the New Year display with her family.

A last minute idea turned into a family experience
Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, the woman shared that the idea came from her husband just two days before New Year.
According to her, he wanted to bring their children to watch fireworks but insisted on a hotel with a balcony so they could enjoy the view comfortably.
With it being a last minute plan, she said she simply booked whatever suitable option she could find at the time.
RM1258 for one night, just for the view

The hotel stay cost RM1258 for one night, a figure that raised eyebrows among netizens when she mentioned it in her caption.
In her post, she wrote that the stay was booked solely to watch the New Year 2026 fireworks, adding that the view from the 46th floor made the experience feel extra special.
She also admitted she did not expect the fireworks near KL Tower to look that good, describing the display as surprisingly beautiful.
Avoiding crowds was the main priority
While some questioned the price, the woman explained that avoiding crowded public areas was the biggest reason behind the decision.
With young children in tow, she said her family preferred a calmer environment rather than dealing with packed streets, long waits, and safety concerns.
For them, watching the fireworks from a balcony offered peace of mind and allowed everyone to enjoy the moment without stress.
Worth it for family happiness
Despite the cost, she said the experience was completely worth it.
According to her, spending a little more to keep the family happy and comfortable was a trade off she was willing to make.
Being able to celebrate together, away from crowds, made the New Year feel more meaningful for them.
As her viral clips show, sometimes celebrating from afar can still feel just as magical.
