A Malaysian woman has drawn backlash online after mocking her sister’s boyfriend for being “too poor,” while claiming her own boyfriend, who drives a Myvi, is far more worthy despite working as a mechanic in Singapore.
Complains that sister’s BF isn’t “good enough”
In a lengthy post shared to XUAN on Facebook, the woman said her sister had always been better off—good in studies, pretty and had more opportunities.
But she was disappointed by her sister’s choice of partner, who she described as someone with average income, no luxury car, and “acting like he’s morally superior.”
He studied abroad, but now earns less than my sister. Yet he acts like money isn’t important,” she wrote.
Says her mechanic boyfriend is more capable
In comparison, she proudly mentioned her own boyfriend works as a car repairman in Singapore, has already bought a house and drives a Mercedes-Benz.
“He earns with his own hands, and he’s really capable,” she added, claiming he was looked down upon by her family for not having a high education level or speaking well.
She was especially annoyed that her sister’s boyfriend often spoke about values and life lessons, calling him arrogant for saying things like “money isn’t everything” while eating food at their home.
To me, he’s just poor and proud,” she said.
The woman also expressed frustration with her mother and relatives, who preferred her sister’s boyfriend, calling him “honest” and “deep.”
She questioned how qualities like honesty could help with real-life expenses like housing, children, or retirement.
Admits to being materialistic
She ended the post by admitting openly that she’s materialistic and values financial stability over ideals.
I just want my sister to break up with him. Not because I’m cruel, but because I can’t accept that someone with worse conditions is treated as a better choice.”
The post has since gone viral, with many netizens criticising her views on money, relationships, and success.
