For many, food delivery riders are just people in helmets rushing through traffic to deliver meals on time.
But behind every delivery is a person working hard to earn a living, often while being unfairly judged.
One rider recently shared his experience of being looked down on for his job.
But instead of getting angry, he delivered a simple, heartfelt response that left the person speechless and reminded everyone why respect should never depend on someone’s profession.
A routine delivery takes an unexpected turn
It was just another day of deliveries when the rider pulled up to a flat to drop off an order.
As he was about to leave, an elderly woman, or makcik, called him over. Thinking she might need help, he walked up to her with a smile, reported Mstar.
“There was this auntie who called me over. I responded, ‘Yes, auntie, what is it?
‘ She asked if I was working as a full-time delivery rider. I said yes because this is how I earn my living,” he shared in his post.
Her next question caught him off guard.
Judged for his education, not his efforts

Instead of simply accepting his answer, the woman asked about his education level.
When he told her he only had his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) certificate, she immediately made assumptions about his life choices.
“She said I was doing this job because I didn’t continue my studies,” he wrote.
The makcik then began to compare him to her child, proudly mentioning how her son had studied abroad, earned a degree, and landed a job overseas.
The implication was clear: she believed success only came with higher education and that delivering food was a sign of failure.
A calm response that said it all

The rider could have argued or gotten upset. But instead, he responded with calm confidence and a perspective that cut through the judgment.
“I smiled and asked her, ‘Does your child come back to Malaysia often?’
She replied that they only return once every two years.
Then I said, ‘At least I get to come home every day to see my mom and take her out for walks.'”
The woman was stunned into silence. Meanwhile, the rider walked away with a smile, proud of his response and ready to move on with his day.
When he shared his story on Facebook, the post quickly gained traction. Many praised him for his patience and the way he handled the situation.
“Legendary response! Never let anyone make you feel less for what you do,” wrote one commenter.
