A woman recently took to social media to share how her efforts to prepare daily packed meals for her boyfriend ended up leaving her feeling hurt instead of appreciated.
According to mStar, the issue started when she confronted her boyfriend about his spending habits as she felt he was too careless with money and often struggled financially before the month ended.
Wanting to help him save, she decided to cook for him every day and send packed meals to his workplace.
But her boyfriend saw it differently.
“He said I was controlling. Since we argued, I sent him packed meals twice and both times he did not come to collect them.”
Went to pick up untouched food at night
In the screenshots she shared, the packed meal was left outside her boyfriend’s house. By 9pm, the food was still untouched.
Worried it would spoil, she messaged him saying she would throw it away if it remained uncollected.
She also reminded him not to waste their rezeki (sustanence) and told him she would stop cooking if her effort continued to be ignored.
“I feel like I have lost respect for myself because of what he did,” she wrote.
‘Stop providing for him!’
Her post quickly drew reactions from netizens, many of whom advised her not to overextend herself in the relationship.
Some pointed out that constantly providing for a partner can be taken for granted, especially when there is no commitment yet. Others felt the boyfriend’s behaviour showed a lack of appreciation.
The woman later clarified that she and her partner are still students. She also revealed that her boyfriend is currently undergoing industrial training and receives very little in allowance.
She said she understood his situation, which was why she tried to help by preparing meals for him.
Still, the lack of acknowledgement left her feeling disappointed and emotionally drained.
