‘No Regrets’ — M’sian Woman Leaves Air Stewardess Job To Sell Food By The Roadside With Husband

A brave decision.
Most wouldn’t give up their lucrative jobs in exchange for another that pays way less as it would severely impact their financial situation.

For this 32-year-old woman though, she made the bold move of saying goodbye to her job as an air stewardess and becoming a food vendor alongside her husband.

Upon her resignation, she was finally able to be closer to her husband, whom she was having a long-distance marriage due to his work as a doctor in Indonesia, and continue the plans they both had made beforehand.

“We decided to sell food by the roadside in Bandar Teknologi Kajang, Selangor. My husband and I ventured into the food business because of our passion as well as to test our luck, even though we were aware of the unpredictable risks that could occur.

“My husband was even willing to learn how to cook Minang dishes from his mother, who is very skilled in those dishes,” she said.

Putri Nur Shanee, who’s a mother to two children said a total of 50 dishes are sold at the stall and entirely made by her husband.

As for her, she’s responsible for maintaining food cleanliness and quality, assisting with online orders and packaging, and attending to customers.

‘No shame or regret’

Putri Nur Shanee also told the Malay daily that she doesn’t feel ashamed over the fact that she’s now a food vendor instead of an air stewardess.

This might be because I did not come from a wealthy family and have been working since I finished my Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

“I have also done various jobs before starting my career as a flight attendant with Emirates Airline in 2015,” she explained.

Putri Nur Shanee also added that she never regretted leaving her air stewardess job as she believes she was destined to be a food vendor.

“I choose to rely on faith throughout my journey of becoming a street food vendor. I’m also grateful that this sacrifice has paid off as the business has received an overwhelming response from customers.

“Additionally, I chose to become a vendor because I like to challenge myself to do something new. My future dream is to open a restaurant that serves Minang food and I hope it will come true,” she said.
