According to NST, the suspects were a 52-year-old mother, her son and daughter aged 33 and 27 respectively, and the woman’s younger brother, aged 43.
The theft occurred on three separate occasions, namely on May 14, May 24 and 25 at the supermarket located at Parit Jawa.

According to police investigations, the daughter is believed to have masterminded the theft as she was a worker at the supermarket.
In the thefts, the family would enter the supermarket between 6am and 7am, where they pretended to shop around while filling two trolleys with groceries.
Upon checking out, they would head over to the counter manned by their daughter, where she would pretend to scan the items to make it look as though they had already paid for it.

The family’s actions were eventually uncovered when the supermarket’s management reviewed CCTV footage.
They also found no records or receipts of any payments made by the suspects, leading to an estimated loss of RM3,000 for the supermarket.
Facing jail time and fine
A police report was later filed over the theft and the suspects were eventually arrested.
Magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid ordered them to be remanded for four days starting from May 27, until tomorrow (May 30), to facilitate police investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.

They are now facing a prison sentence of up to 10 years and a fine if convicted.
