M’sian Woman Has Helmet Stolen In Penang, Later Finds It Being Sold At Flea Market

The thief apologised when confronted over the theft.
A woman in Penang was left understandably outraged after her motorcycle helmet was stolen while she was having a meal at a Japanese restaurant in Jelutong.

However, it never occurred to her that she would eventually find her helmet being sold at a flea market by the thief himself.

After requesting for CCTV footage from the restaurant in order to track down the thief, Jazz made a police report and had a “long conversation” with the officer, who told her a startling fact about theft cases in Penang.

The sergeant told me all about Penang’s theft problems and many cases were left unresolved cause lack of evidence.

“As a helmet is categorised as a small case to them, they cannot put too much resources into it. The sergeant also mentioned to gather more CCTV footages if I could see the number plate or even check all the secondhand markets in Penang,” she wrote.

Found helmet at flea market

At the police officer’s advice, Jazz made her way to the Lorong Kulit flea market, a well-known secondhand market in Penang.

There, lo and behold, she found her stolen helmet ready to be sold by the thief.

Upon locating her helmet, Jazz immediately contacted the sergeant, who then spoke to the thief over the phone, telling the latter that he would be arrested if he refused to return the helmet.

“I took back my helmet and left. So, the moral of the story is that, if you have any valuables in Penang that have gone missing, you can consider taking the steps I took above,” she wrote.

In the comment section, Jazz said she was able to identify her helmet due to markings left inside it, the slightly frayed belt, and the faint scent of her hair gel on it.

She also added that the thief apologised for stealing her helmet.
