If you’ve ever visited a petting zoo, you’d know that animals, no matter how fluffy or friendly, have their limits too.
A TikTok video recently showed a woman getting spat on by an alpaca, with the clip going viral and leaving netizens amused and intrigued by the animal’s unusual reaction.
M’sian woman gets spat on by alpaca
In the 23-second video posted by @azmanali_rider, it showed the woman interacting with alpacas at The Sheep Sanctuary in Cameron Highlands.
At first, she is seen gently petting a brown alpaca through a fence before moving on to a white alpaca next to it.

Instead of being gentle with it like what she did with the brown alpaca, the woman decided to get a little more playful by pushing its neck and giving its ear a light tug.
However, that didn’t sit well with the brown alpaca. As if coming to its friend’s defence, it suddenly turned and spat at the woman’s face, much to the surprise of everyone.

The OP, who captured the exchange on camera, was also taken aback by it and cheekily wrote in the video caption: ‘You disturbed his partner, so he spat at you.’
Netizens amused
The video has since gained over 700,000 views at the time of writing, sparking a wave of reactions from netizens.
Some were thoroughly entertained by the clip, with them voicing support for the alpaca that sprayed its spit all over the woman’s face.

Many also criticised the woman for acting roughly with the alpaca, which was what caused the animal to retaliate by spitting on her.
‘Please don’t act like towards these animals. They sometimes spit (at people) to protect themselves, but one day they might become very aggressive due to stress.’

‘Be gentle, kak. Animals have feelings too. Don’t go pulling its ear.’

Why do alpacas spit at people?
While alpacas are usually calm and gentle, they do have a unique way of setting boundaries. Spitting is their natural defense mechanism, especially when they feel uncomfortable or irritated.
According to experts, alpacas may first spit air as a warning. If the situation continues, they might release saliva or even stomach contents. But in general, they’re friendly animals — as long as you respect their space.
So if you ever visit an alpaca farm, just remember: a little kindness goes a long way — and might save you from a surprise spit!
