What was meant to be a normal morning drive on the first day of 2026 turned into a shocking encounter for a woman in Johor Bahru after a man suddenly ran towards her moving car and leapt onto the bonnet.
The incident happened at about 7.36am on Jan 1 in the Mount Austin area.
In a post shared on Xiaohongshu, the incident happened at about 7.36am on Jan 1 in Mount Austin.
The OP joked that “on the first day of 2026, this person helped block my bad luck for the entire year.”
Dashcam footage uploaded by the woman shows the man standing by the roadside in a shoplot area, holding what appeared to be a phone in both hands.

As her car approached, he suddenly sprinted forward and threw himself onto the front of her vehicle.
Recalling the incident, the woman said her mind went completely blank at first, but she managed to calm herself down and realised she had likely encountered a scam attempt meant to stage a fake accident.
She later lodged a police report and shared that officers who reviewed the dashcam footage were equally stunned.
“The funniest part was when the police watched the video and asked whether the man was trying to commit suicide,” she said.

The video sparked heated discussion online, with many netizens highlighting the importance of having a dashcam installed.

Several pointed out that without video evidence, drivers could easily be falsely blamed or extorted in staged accident cases.
