A woman was left in disbelief after being charged RM1,420 to repair the anti-lock braking system (ABS) of her Perodua Axia, saying it cost “more than her son’s school fees.”
She shared her experience on Facebook along with a photo of the receipt, sparking debate among netizens.
RM1,000 for a used ABS pump
According to the receipt, the cost included RM360 for a brake master pump, RM60 for brake fluid, and RM1,000 for a second-hand ABS pump which had a two-week warranty.

What shocked her most was the RM1,000 price tag for the used ABS pump, where the workshop owner reportedly told her a brand-new one would cost RM1,600.
Netizens’ comments
Opinions among netizens were split, with some opining that the OP had been overcharged and pointing out that the brake fluid alone seemed overpriced.
‘It’s really expensive, you got slaughtered. Just by looking at the brake oil price, I know you got ripped off. Brake oil has its own market price.’

‘Nowadays, new car parts are never cheap. If the gearbox of a new Axia or a Proton CVT gearbox breaks, the repair cost will make you question your life.’

On the other hand, some argued the price was reasonable if labour costs were included and chided the OP for not inquiring about the prices beforehand.
‘Ask for the price first before agreeing to the repair.’
