Losing a pet is heartbreaking. But losing a stray cat you’ve bonded with is a kind of grief that hits differently because they chose to trust you.
One Malaysian woman recently shared a tearful experience on TikTok after discovering that a stray cat she often fed and cuddled near her workplace had passed away.
And despite the heavy rain, she made sure the cat got a proper farewell.
‘It’s the black cat that always came to me’
In the video, the woman said the cat would appear daily at her workplace with a few other strays, often meowing for food.
Among them, one black cat stood out. It was extremely affectionate, always trying to sneak inside the building whenever she opened the door.
“I’d always be the one to carry it back out because my coworkers weren’t fond of cats,” she said.
That morning, she noticed the black cat sleeping by a drain but didn’t think much of it as she was rushing in for work.
But after lunchtime, a colleague came back from the shop next door and told her a cat had died in the rain.
“I remembered the black cat sleeping there earlier. I had a bad feeling,” she wrote. “I went outside and saw it. It was my cat.”
‘Couldn’t just leave it there’
Despite the pouring rain and not having a car, she decided to bring the cat’s body home on her motorcycle so she could bury it.
My friend asked how I was going to carry it. But I couldn’t just leave it, it was soaking wet and cold. This cat was always so sweet to me. Who else would bury it if I didn’t?”
So she wrapped the body in a black plastic bag and held it tightly throughout the ride.

“It was raining so heavily that I was drenched all the way home,” she said. “But I managed to bury the cat before Maghrib prayers.”
Netizens praise her compassion
The video struck a chord with viewers, many of whom left comments thanking her for her kindness.
“You did the best for those strays. May all your goodness be witnessed by them.”

“This is so heartbreaking. Thank you for being such a kind soul.”

Though she never imagined having to bury a cat like this, and also said she believes there was a lesson behind the emotional experience.
