Trust is often the foundation of any long-term relationship, especially one that is heading toward marriage.
For one woman, however, that trust was shattered after she discovered her fiancé had been living a double life behind her back, a revelation that ultimately led to their engagement being called off.
Everything changed after career shift
In a post shared on Threads, the woman revealed that she had known her former fiancé since their school days and that they had been together for years before planning to settle down. However, she claimed that his behaviour began to change after he started working as cabin crew.
“After finishing matriculation, he became a cabin crew member. That’s where everything started,” she wrote.
“I’m not trying to badmouth cabin crew, but this only happened after he joined that career.”
A discovery that broke her heart
According to her, the turning point came when she discovered him sleeping with another man, a moment she described as emotionally devastating.
My heart completely shattered. I secretly checked his phone and found a ‘yellow mask’ app (Grindr), which is a same-sex dating platform,” she shared.
Although she acknowledged that checking his phone was a violation of privacy, she said the discovery pushed her to confront him directly.
“Yes, I know I was wrong for invading his privacy, but I asked him about it straight away. That’s when we decided to call off the engagement,” she wrote.
Choosing silence to protect his dignity
Despite the pain she went through, the woman said she chose to protect her former fiancé’s dignity by not revealing the true reason for their breakup to her family.
“I told my parents that I had lost feelings and that we were no longer on the same path. I felt it was my responsibility to protect his dignity,” she said, adding that she had also advised him about his actions.
She described the experience as deeply disappointing, especially since she had envisioned him as her future husband.
I thought he would be the imam of my life, but he did this. The disappointment is beyond words. Now, everything is just a memory,” she shared.
Crossing paths again after a year apart
Following the breakup, the woman said they went their separate ways for about a year and deliberately avoided each other. However, they unexpectedly crossed paths at a mutual friend’s wedding last month.
“We ran into each other at a friend’s wedding. We had been avoiding each other before this. We spoke calmly, and I’ve forgiven him,” she said.
In her post, the woman also left a message for her former fiancé should he ever come across her story.
“If you’re reading this, I want you to know that the door to repentance is always open. I miss the person you used to be. I will always pray for you as a friend,” she wrote.
