In today’s job scene, knowing an extra language can really take you far — and one Malaysian’s experience proves just that.
A Malaysian woman recently sparked interest online after revealing how she secured a job that pays RM8,300 a month after tax, even though her highest academic qualification is just SPM.

She shared her story in a post through her account @asoshiation in a post on the X platform.
In the post, she revealed that she had spent two years working remotely with a Korean team based in Penang.
Her role mainly involved watching and filtering Korean videos — and the best part? It was fully work-from-home.
What surprised many was that she got the job not through a diploma or degree, but purely because she could speak, read, and type in Korean.

My salary? RM8.3K after tax.
My qualifications? The fact that I can speak, read & type in Korean.
My highest education? SPM.”
More than just basic pay
She also explained in the comments that her total monthly earnings included various allowances — such as for language skills, working from home, well-being, shift work, and even KPI performance bonuses.
Thanks to these extras, her overall salary package was much higher than what many would expect for someone without tertiary education.
Encouraging others to follow suit, she simply wrote, “Jadi, belajarlah bahasa asing” (So, go ahead and learn a foreign language).
Still values higher education
Even though her story inspired many, she stressed that further education is still important. She shared how she had often been turned down for jobs because she lacked the right qualifications or specific skills.
Don’t get me wrong… tertiary education is absolutely important. There were so many times my job application was rejected because I didn’t have proper papers.”
She added that she’s currently saving up so she can eventually enrol in university and work towards getting a proper academic qualification.

A Bold Take on a Broken System
She also shared her thoughts on the current job market, saying that even degree holders sometimes struggle with low starting salaries.
The system has failed many of us… so instead of dwelling on it, I chose a different path to survive the present and work my way to a better future.”
