M’sian Woman Clears PTPTN Loan After Switching From RM1.8K Lecturer Job To Govt Teacher Role

Sometimes all it takes is a new direction.
It’s nice to see Malaysians making positive changes through different career paths.

One woman recently shared how she managed to clear her PTPTN student loan simply by switching from a low-paying private lecturer job to becoming a government school teacher.

From RM1.8K to over RM3K monthly

The woman revealed she used to earn just RM1,800 a month as a lecturer at a private institution.

After making the switch to a government teaching role, her income increased to over RM3,000—enough to finally settle her student debt (PTPTN loan).

I really went from being a private college lecturer earning RM1,800 to a government school teacher earning over RM3,000. I’m grateful because it helped me pay off my PTPTN loan. At least now I’m free from debt.”

Even lower offers as a fresh graduate

She added in the comments that fresh out of university, she was once offered a lecturer position for just RM1,500.

She also shared in the comment section that she first applied for a lecturing position after completing her Bachelor’s degree, and later went on to pursue her Master’s to strengthen her career prospects.

Only after joining the government sector did her earnings finally surpass RM3,000 and allow her to wipe out her PTPTN balance.

She pointed out that private colleges often hire lecturers straight after their bachelor’s degree—with as little as a year’s experience—and salaries can remain low, noting that even a friend who held a Master’s was offered just RM2,000.
