A Malaysian woman recently took to Threads to share what she described as a “shocking” experience at a popular nasi kandar spot in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
According to her post, she and three friends dined there last weekend, ordering what she called a “basic” meal.
RM230 for basic rice, chicken, vege & drinks
She revealed that the group of four had plates of rice with ayam masak merah, some vegetables, fried onions, egg, and three glasses of iced teh limau.

When the bill came, it totaled RM230.
“This is not a joke. 230 for mamak without any seafood.
I’m someone who has never had an issue with food prices, but this shocked me up till now. Please be careful before you even take seafood here. Might get a heart attack.”
Netizens react
One netizen calculated that the price came up to RM57.50 per person and commented, ‘That is daylight robbery. KPDN may be your best avenue if you still keep the receipt.”
The OP replied, agreeing with the sentiment: ‘Exactly why I was shocked! I get it if there was seafood but it was a basic order I get at every nasi kandar. It was literally like robbing a foreigner, which they probably thought we were, but this is not right.’

“Never happened at other branches”
She also explained in the comment section that she had eaten at other outlets before and never encountered such prices.
‘I get the lamb shank and all that pricing which we usually do order at other places, but this was a basic order. Who would assume that pricing? The meal was basic nasi kandar. I’m a regular at other branches but this has never happened.”
