When disaster strikes, any form of assistance can feel like a blessing especially when it comes in the form of essential household items.
For one Malaysian woman, the help her mother received after a house fire was initially seen as a much-needed relief.
Then came the phone call that changed everything
But months later, she was shocked to find out the same aid was allegedly being taken back all because her mother had joined a different political party.
In a post that has sparked attention online, the woman shared that her mother had received a refrigerator and a rubber mat as aid after their house caught fire due to an electrical short circuit in October 2024.
The items were provided by a political party that learned of the incident through one of their family members. However, in May 2025, things took an unexpected turn.
Today, my mum called and said the people who gave her the fridge and rubber mat after the fire now want to take it back,” she wrote.
“You’re not from our party anymore”
According to her mother, the person who gave the aid said it was because she was no longer part of the political party that had offered the items.
Mum said it’s because she’s not from the party that gave the aid.”
The woman revealed that her mother had recently been appointed as a committee member of another political party, and that somehow prompted the withdrawal of the aid.
So now they want to take it back? Is aid really supposed to depend on which party you support?”

She added that the original donor had recorded a video when handing over the items, and her mother now plans to do the same if they show up to retrieve them.
Mum said they can come, but it has to be the same person, not a rep or PA. Since they filmed themselves giving it, we’ll film them taking it back too.”
At the time of writing, she said the party involved has not given any official response, and things have gone quiet.
However, she stressed that she does not blame the party itself, but rather the individual behind the act.
That’s why I won’t name the party. To me, this isn’t about politics, it’s about the person.”
