A Malaysian woman has shared a frightening experience during a recent family trip, where a man allegedly attempted to follow her all the way to her hotel room late at night.

Shared anonymously on XUAN’s Facebook page, the incident happened during the long holiday when she and her family were staying at a hotel that had recently installed elevator access control.
Guests were required to scan their room card before selecting a floor.
Although she found it slightly inconvenient, she felt it was a good safety measure.
One night around 9pm, she took the elevator back to her room after buying souvenirs from the hotel lobby.
Inside were an elderly couple, a young woman who sounded like she was from China, and a young man.
As she prepared to scan her card, the man told her, “No need to scan here.” Suspicious, she ignored him.
When her card did not register at first, the young woman stepped in to help and the elderly couple reassured her that the elevator often malfunctioned.
The man, however, kept insisting there was no need to scan, only stopping when the others refuted him.
Followed to her floor

After successfully scanning, she thanked the woman. The elderly couple got off at the 18th floor, and the young woman left on the 20th, leaving only her and the man in the elevator.
When the elevator reached the 21st floor, she quickly stepped out, only to find the man following right behind her.
He then told her that he had not managed to book a room that night and would only have one the next morning, which explained why he did not have a key card.
Her room was further down the corridor, and as she tried to open her door with trembling hands, the man came closer.
Brother stepped in

Panicking, she shouted and pushed the door closed. Fortunately, her brother was inside the room and rushed out to block the man.
When confronted, the man claimed she had invited him to follow her and even showed a photo on his phone to prove mistaken identity. However, the person in the picture looked nothing like her.
Her brother then warned the man to leave or they would call the police. The man eventually walked away.
Warning to others
The woman later reflected that if she had not been going to a higher floor, the young woman in the elevator might have been the one targeted instead.
She urged others, especially women, to always be cautious in such situations. “If you ever encounter this in an elevator, it is better not to get out rather than risk letting someone follow you to your room. Asking for help is the most direct way.”
She added that she only dared to run back to her room because she knew her brother was inside. Otherwise, she would never have let the man follow her to her door.
She also stressed that such incidents are not caused by how a woman looks or dresses. On that day, she was in a T-shirt, long pants, sneakers and a jacket, looking like a teenager.
This incident made me realize that some people do not act because of how you look, but because they already have bad intentions in their hearts,” she wrote.
