M’sian Woman Claims Govt Clinics Are Filled With Foreign Mothers, Raising Concern Over Local Birth Rates

"Do we want their population to grow here, or do we want the local population to grow?” she wrote.
A social media post has triggered discussion among Malaysians after a woman questioned why government health clinic (KK) facilities appear to be increasingly dominated by foreigners seeking pregnancy check-ups and baby treatments.

The woman said the scene at a KK contradicted the usual criticism directed at local parents who are often told not to “have too many children” if they are financially struggling.

She shared that during her visit, she noticed a significant number of Rohingya, Myanmar and Indonesian women attending prenatal and infant check-ups.

According to her, the concern is not about denying healthcare, but about the long-term impact on local demographics and resource allocation.

“People always scold us… if you are poor, why keep having children? But at the KK, I saw so many foreigners coming for check-ups. Do we want their population to grow here, or do we want the local population to grow?” she wrote.

She added that Malaysia has many good healthcare facilities, but as local birth rates continue to fall, she worries that these services may eventually be utilised more by foreigners than Malaysians.

The woman also claimed there have been cases where foreign parents who cannot afford to raise their babies end up abandoning them at hospitals. This reportedly complicates registration processes because the infants lack proper documentation, reported mStar.

Government to tighten measures

Her post received strong reactions online, with many urging the government to look into the rising number of births among foreigners in Malaysia.

Some users expressed frustration over what they perceived as an over-reliance on public healthcare facilities without sufficient payment.

“Do not let them give birth in government hospitals if they cannot pay. Only let them in when they have money. After giving chance so many times, things are getting worse,” one person commented.

Another user added that foreign patients “reproduce like there is no tomorrow,” describing the scene of heavily pregnant women returning to clinics with another child in tow.

Foreigners required to pay higher charges

According to the Ministry of Health (KKM) official portal, foreigners seeking treatment at government hospitals must pay designated charges based on the type of treatment and ward class selected.

These fees are significantly higher compared to citizens and vary depending on visa status and whether the individual has health insurance.
