A woman’s late night car trouble along the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong has unexpectedly sparked a heated online debate about entitlement, independence and who really “shows up” when it matters.
In a Threads post that has since gained traction, the woman shared how her car tyre burst while she was stranded by the side of the highway.
Calling men who once pursued her
Instead of immediately contacting roadside assistance, she decided to call several men who had once pursued her romantically.
She said she hoped that at least one of them would physically come to her aid.
I called the men who once tried so hard to pursue me, hoping at least one of them would say, ‘Don’t worry, stay there. I’m coming.’”

However, she claimed that every one of them was suddenly unavailable.
Instead, every single one of them suddenly became busy. All they could offer were instructions, who to call, what to do, how much it might cost.
She acknowledged that solutions matter, but said that in moments like that, she would not just remember who could explain things to her, she would remember who was willing to show up.
“Sometimes the person who shows up… is you”
Despite her disappointment, she eventually called a 24 hour towing service and managed the situation on her own.

Strangely enough, moments like this remind me how capable I actually am. Not every situation gets rescued the way you imagine, and sometimes the person who shows up for you… is you. And that has its own quiet kind of strength.”
Her post ended on a reflective and empowering note. But many netizens were not impressed.
Netizens say they owed her nothing
In the comments section, several users questioned why she felt entitled to seek help from men she had previously rejected.
Some pointed out that she herself had said they “tried so hard to pursue” her and that she had hoped “at least one of them” would show up, arguing that it seemed like she was calling them at her convenience and expecting them to drop everything for her.
Others described the situation as unfair, saying she was reaching out only when she needed help after previously acting hard to get, and added that it was a good thing none of them allowed themselves to become her errand boy.
There were also comments suggesting that since she had turned them down, they had every right to maintain their self respect and stop showing up for her. Netizens questioned what they owed her at this point, with some saying that offering instructions and advice was already generous enough.
