A Malaysian business owner recently took to Threads to vent her frustration about an employee who allegedly kept asking for unpaid leave – almost always with the same excuse: diarrhoea.
In one of the screenshots shared, the employee texted her boss early in the morning on May 17:
“Kak, nak unpaid sehari. Cirit birit.”

She even repeated the same request days later, citing the same reason. The boss captioned the post:
“If she doesn’t take unpaid leave, she suffers in life.”
“She always says she has no money to see the doctor”
The employer, who runs an optical store, claimed that the employee had passed her probation and became a full-time staff.
But ever since becoming permanent, she allegedly started requesting unpaid leave more frequently, often without medical certificates.

When asked why she wouldn’t apply for proper sick leave, the employee reportedly replied that she didn’t have money to visit the doctor.
The boss said what annoyed her most was how the employee would take 2-3 days off after already resting over the weekend — all while requesting unpaid leave, which created scheduling issues for the shop.
Netizens say they’ve seen the same kind of employees too
The post went viral and sparked a discussion online.
Many netizens shared similar workplace experiences, complaining about colleagues who frequently took MCs or unpaid leave, especially on Mondays or weekends.
One person said their colleague once used the same excuse — “grandma passed away” — three to four times.

Others cited excuses like headaches, fever, or family issues as common ways to skip work.
“Fine lah, at least she didn’t ask to be paid.”

Boss claims employee was caught slacking off at work
The employer also alleged that during working hours, the employee would either scroll on her phone or take naps.
“She didn’t even have a fixed lunch hour, but we wouldn’t say anything even if she ate during work. But she kept playing with her phone even when customers walked in,” she said.
The final straw came when the employee reportedly admitted that she wasn’t actually sick, just didn’t feel like working.
“I even tried talking to her to understand her struggles, but she didn’t change. In the end, I had to reschedule others to cover her shift,” the boss said.
