M’sian Weightlifter Aniq Kasdan Breaks National Record & Finishes 4th At Olympics

Malaysian weightlifter Aniq Kasdan narrowly missed a podium finish in the men’s 61kg weightlifting event at the Paris Olympics, falling just one kilogram short of the bronze medal.

Competing at the South Paris Arena on Wednesday, Aniq broke the national record in the snatch category.

He lifted 130kg in his third attempt, surpassing Aznil Bidin’s previous record of 129kg set at the 2023 World Championships in Riyadh.

Aniq completed the competition in fourth place with a total lift of 297kg.

The bronze medal went to America’s Hampton Morris, who lifted a total of 298kg.

China’s Li Fabin successfully defended his gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics with a total lift of 310kg.

Thailand’s Theerapong Silachai won the silver medal with a total lift of 303kg.

Breaks national records

Aniq’s performance included a new national record in the snatch with 130kg and a clean and jerk lift of 167kg. Despite his efforts, his attempt at 174kg to secure a podium position was unsuccessful.

In an interview, Aniq said, “Today’s result will make me stronger in the future,” expressing determination to come back stronger in future competitions.
