Watching a bad movie is one thing, but asking for a refund because it was that bad?
One Malaysian man did just that after a disappointing cinema experience on the first day of Chinese New Year.
Couldn’t sit through it
The man shared his experience on TikTok, saying he went to watch a movie with his family, only to find it unbearable.
Halfway through, they decided to leave the cinema because they simply couldn’t take it anymore.
Feeling that his money had gone to waste, he approached the popcorn counter and asked if he could get a refund.
No refund policy
When he brought up his dissatisfaction, the cashier told him there was no refund policy for movie tickets.
“I asked them, ‘The movie was really bad, can I get a refund?’ The staff said they don’t offer refunds,” he recounted.
Shocked, he tried to argue his case, saying that other industries like restaurants and online shopping platforms have refund policies.
“I know you guys didn’t make the movie, but I think there should be a refund policy. If customers are unhappy, they should have the right to ask for a refund,” he said, calling for cinemas nationwide to implement such policies.
Netizens weigh in
His request, however, sparked mixed reactions online.
Some netizens felt that he should have watched the trailer before deciding to buy a ticket.

Others pointed out that cinemas are just screening venues, and refunds should only apply if there are issues like broken seats or faulty air-conditioning.
In a follow-up comment, he explained his stance, saying, “There is always a first time for everything. That’s how consumer acts are born. Just thinking out loud why cinemas don’t have this policy.”
