If you’re an extrovert, you’d probably find it hard to find joy at the workplace if there aren’t any colleagues whom you can regularly banter or have lunch with.
A local woman has taken to social media to rant about her frustration over having no friends at the office and expressed her desire to walk away from the job even though it had several benefits.
Wants to resign over having no friends at the office
In an anonymous submission which was shared by @ammarfaris on X (formerly Twitter), the woman spilled her heart out over a particular obstacle which left her demotivated at work.

“I have a good salary, good bosses, and my home is near my workplace. However, I don’t have any close friends here. I often have lunch alone and I can only rant to myself whenever I’m stressed.
“I never expected that I wouldn’t have any friends and I’m very tempted to resign,” the woman wrote, before asking the OP to give her advice that would motivate her again.
OP and netizens urge woman to reconsider
Upon seeing the woman’s confession, the OP expressed sympathy for her situation but strongly advised her not to resign from her job just because she had no friends.
You’re not broken. You’re just in a season. And this problem will not be solved if you resign. And maybe, you might find yourself in a worse workplace when you no longer enjoy the things you do now.”

He then listed several practical steps in which she could make the most out of her seemingly unfortunate situation:
- Take full advantage of the fact that her workplace is super near her home
- Join offline/online classes or hit the gym
- Start saving up and invest
- Turn her ‘lonely’ period into one of self-reflection and improvement
“If you don’t have friends, the solution isn’t to resign. The solution is to find friends. To be honest, this can be one of the most exciting phases in your life. You get to choose what you want to do,” the OP added.
Netizens also echoed similar sentiments, where they urged the woman to think twice on her consideration to resign.
‘Guys, your workplace is just for work, you’re not there to find besties or the love of your life. In fact, keep your personal and work lives separate. Separate phone numbers, separate phones. If you happen to find friends from it, ok lah, grateful I guess. But remember: it’s a JOB.’

‘Important notes. Don’t ever rant about office stuff with your office buddy. Trust no one. Office politics can kill your career if you overshare with anyone. So you’re in good hands actually. Rant with your other circles or pets.’
