People often say “beauty lies in the eye of the beholder” when it comes to choosing a romantic partner, but oftentimes it is way more nuanced in real life.
A Malaysian Redditor has recently sent tongues wagging and eyebrows raising with his post, where he encouraged Western men looking for a life partner to come to Malaysia instead of neighbouring country Thailand.

In the post shared on the subreddit r/thepassportbros, the netizen had a piece of advice for white “Passport Bros” — a term used to describe men who travel abroad (usually developing countries) as a way to run from feminism back home and find more “traditional” women.
The netizen argued that Malaysia bested Thailand in a variety of ways, citing favourable exchange rates, English proficiency, and a supply of “nice girls” at the ready.
He placed special attention on Chinese Christian, Catholic, and Buddhist women, claiming they had a higher level of acceptance when it came to having a Western partner.
The netizen also advised white “Passport Bros” to not rely on dating apps or go to nighclubs to net women, claiming it would expose them to the risk of getting scammed or ending up with the wrong partner.
Make friends with the locals. Join a cooking/baking class, yoga class, dance class, gym class, etc. Make friends with the locals, join their social circle. Then you’ll get to meet new people, and normal local girls.
“You can try go window shopping in any of the large shopping malls, or dine at any restaurant. If you see a pretty salesgirl or waitress you fancy, just ask her out. This is a better/safer way to find a nice girl,” he wrote.
The netizen also claimed that having a Malaysian woman as a wife has another upside: the Western husband “won’t have to support their family” as Malaysia’s the third richest country in Southeast Asia.
He later revealed in the comment thread that he was a Malaysian who was “trying to be helpful to all the lonely Passport Bros who just wants to find a nice girl and settle down”.
Controversy ensues
The post was later shared to X (formerly Twitter), where netizens were disgusted to see the OP fetishizing Chinese Malaysian women.
