M’sian Upset After Contributing RM30 For Boss’s Gift, Only To Find Out It Was For A RM11K Bottle of Wine

The company provide no prior discussion or transparency.
A female employee has taken to social media to express her frustration after discovering that her contribution towards a birthday gift for her company’s boss was used to purchase alcohol worth RM11,000, without informing staff beforehand.

According to mStar, n a post that has since gone viral, the woman explained that each employee was asked to contribute a minimum of RM30 to buy a birthday gift for the company’s “big boss.”

However, she was shocked to later learn that the collected funds had been used to buy expensive liquor.

We were told to contribute at least RM30 each. In the end, the birthday gift turned out to be alcohol worth RM11,000. I feel guilty because I contributed without knowing,” she wrote.

No prior discussion or transparency

The employee also revealed that there was no discussion or agreement among staff about the type of gift being purchased, and that employees were only told after the alcohol had already been bought.

She added that although the company is non-Muslim-owned, the management should still respect the religious sensitivities of Muslim employees.

Yes, it’s a non-Muslim company. But as an employer, you should respect Muslim sensitivities. At the very least, have some common sense,” she added.

Netizens urge employers to be more considerate

The post has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many netizens agreeing that issues involving religion, especially alcohol, are highly sensitive and should be handled more thoughtfully.
