These days, choosing a school for your child isn’t just about academic results.

Parents are looking for more; they want a place where their kids feel safe, cared for, and respected.

Somewhere with discipline, structure, and above all, heart. And sometimes, all it takes is one small act of kindness to show just how much a school cares.

That’s what one mum discovered at her child’s Chinese national-type school (SJKC) in Johor.

In a now-viral TikTok video (@syifacarryalls), Syifa shared what happened during school pickup on a rainy day—and it left a deep impression on her.

As the rain poured down, she noticed several teachers standing at the school entrance, umbrellas in hand.

But they weren’t using them for themselves.

Instead, they were walking students to their parents’ cars and school buses, shielding them from the rain so parents didn’t have to get out and rush through puddles.

“They weren’t just keeping the kids safe,” she wrote.

They were helping them into the car without us needing to step out. It was such a heartwarming sight.”

But what truly struck her wasn’t just the gesture, it was the consistency.

She explained that this isn’t something that only happens when it rains. Every day, rain or shine, teachers are stationed at the front of the school to greet the students, open car doors, and make sure they get inside safely.

Every day when I send my child, there’s always a teacher waiting in front of the school to open the car door and escort them through the gate.
Every time it rains, even more teachers show up to help the children get into cars.”

What made it even more beautiful? The teachers didn’t play favourites. It didn’t matter what year the student was in, or what their race or religion was, every child was treated with the same warmth and care.

It doesn’t matter whether the student is in Year 1 or Year 6, regardless of race or religion. I was truly touched and appreciate this act of service!”

‘She’s only 7, and this is her first year at SJKC’

Speaking to WeirdKaya, Syifa revealed that this is actually her daughter’s first year at the school.

“Yes, my daughter’s first year. She’s 7 years old,” she said.

She also confirmed that the day she captured the video wasn’t a light drizzle, it was full-on heavy rain. Despite the weather, the teachers were still out there, standing in the rain for their students.

“That day was heavy rain,” she said.

Why she chose SJKC over other schools

When asked why she enrolled her daughter in an SJKC, Syifa shared that it was a deliberate decision based on values, discipline, and long-term goals.

“We chose SJKC because there’s more discipline, less bullying, and the kids speak nicely without using harsh words towards each other,” she explained.

We also want our daughter to learn more languages, not just Malay and English, for her future. Later when she gets a job, she can use that skill. Nowadays, if you can speak Chinese, you’ll get better job opportunities and a better salary.”

She added that her daughter was willing to learn and had already proven her interest in Chinese language during kindergarten.

“She got Top 1 at Chinese kindergarten, so that’s also why she wanted to go to SJKC.”

‘SJKC really opened my eyes’

Reflecting on her experience so far, Syifa shared that she’s been impressed with how systematic and supportive the school environment is.

“SJKC really opened my eyes,” she said.

It’s more systematic than SK. From my experience in SK, the students didn’t receive the kind of service that the SJKC teachers and PIBG give.”

She even pointed out the difference in parental involvement.

“PIBG in SK doesn’t function as well as in SJKC. Even though SJKC teachers are stricter, no parents are rushing to complain to KPM like SK parents. They’re already doing a good job raising our kids at school. I respect that.”

This small, rainy-day moment might have gone unnoticed by many, but for Syifa and others like her, it’s proof that the school her daughter attends isn’t just focused on academics.

It’s a place where kindness and care are part of the culture, and where even standing in the rain becomes a show of love.

Saya sangat terharu & I appreciate this act of service! Kudos to all teachers SJKCKB, thank you so much! 🫡🤍 Marilah kita raikan kebaikkan semua guru tak kisah SJKC / SK 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Hidup 1 Malaysia! 🇲🇾 #malaysianegaraku #malaysia #sjkc #bestteacher
