A recent incident involving a teacher and a student has reignited the discussion on the limits of discipline in schools.
At a school ceremony, a teacher was caught on video slapping a student right in front of an audience filled with students, teachers, and possibly visitors.
The person who took the video said they shared it not to embarrass anyone, but to remind people about how teachers should act properly, especially when lots of people are watching.
The viral video was reshared on X and some also reshared to Facebook to share their thought.
Many did not agree with the teacher’s action
The incident, highlighted by Mohd Fadli Salleh on his Facebook page, questioned the necessity of such immediate and public discipline, wondering what the student could have done to warrant such treatment, especially during an ongoing ceremony.
He speculated that the student might have been the event’s emcee.
“Teachers, too. No matter how angry you are, control your emotions in front of the full audience in the hall. This event was attended by state government representatives, police, and TNB. It’s just that it’s not certain if the guests had arrived at the time of the incident.”
“Even if the student is still young, they have their dignity and feelings.”
He also pointed out the risks teachers face in this era of ubiquitous smartphones and social media, where any action can be quickly recorded and go viral.
He lamented that such actions erode the respect people have for teachers, expressing hope for a proper resolution to this incident and that such occurrences will not repeat in the future.
