Yesterday (Apr 24), thousands of students across Malaysia received their SPM results and there was plenty of joy for those who scored well and celebrated the moment with their family.
Sadly, there are those who never lived to see or obtain their SPM results for themselves, like this one student who died more than a week before the results were released.
Had a troubled schooling life
In a lengthy Facebook post shared by a teacher named Muslim Ismail, he wrote about the student whom teachers would deem as “problematic”.

Back in Form 4, he was almost expelled for frequently skipping school. Thanks to the efforts of the Senior Assistant for Student Affairs and the counselor, he returned to school.
“He was a good and sincere student who had no disciplinary issues, except for absenteeism. Perhaps the school environment wasn’t welcoming and the competitive and comparative nature of academics might have deterred him due to his struggle to understand and remember things,” he wrote.
Despite the student’s turbulent schooling life, Muslim noticed that he had a natural talent for singing and recruited him for the school’s poetry and song cohort.
“He started to enjoy coming to school, maybe because he felt appreciated. Perhaps, that also became one of his best memories from his schooling days,” he reminisced.

Muslim added that while the student often flunked his exams, he tried his best in completing assignments for the Landscape subject he taught.
“Although his work wasn’t perfect, he tried hard. I never got angry with him because I understood his limitations. Sometimes, when he missed the bus after tuition, I’d drive him home and share a few words of encouragement.”
M’sian teacher mourns passing of student who scored ‘A’
Unfortunately, fate decided to deal a cruel hand in the form of the latter passing away after an appendix surgery due to bacterial infection.
To further add salt to the wound, the student scored an ‘A-‘ for Muslim’s Landscape subject but never lived to see it or celebrate this moment of triumph.

This clearly weighed heavily on Muslim’s heart, who mourned over the opportunity to congratulate the student which was taken away from him.
Today, he got an A-. But I didn’t get the chance to see him to say congratulations,” he wrote sorrowfully.
In the comment section, netizens were heartbroken by Muslim’s story and expressed their condolences for the student’s passing.
