A Malaysian teacher, who is female, was scammed out of RM91,400 by individuals impersonating a police officer, a deputy public prosecutor, and an insurance agent.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf elaborated that the 51-year-old woman had received a phone call on 24th of February from a so-called insurance agent.
He accused her of claiming insurance worth of RM 68,000 in Ampang Puteri Hospital.
When the lady began to deny the false accusation, the agent linked the phone call to a police officer and then to a deputy public prosecutor.
The woman was also convinced and was deceived with the act.
RM 91,400 was drained straight out of her bank
“The victim gave her banking particulars as requested and subsequently made four cash transfers totalling RM91,400 to an account given by the suspect,” Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf reported.
She went along with the procedures which was instructed by them. She changed her new Bank Rakyat card and updated the TAC number.
Approximately RM 91,400 was transferred directly from Tabung Haji, Aeon Credit loan and money from leased jewelleries.
All the money which was deposited in the bank was withdrawn by the suspect within a month from the date of depositing the money.
Ramli said the woman lodged a report at the Jerantut district police headquarters after she noticed that she had been cheated.
He later on reminded the public to consistently stay alert of the ongoing scam cases. “Always check with the relevant agencies or police or check at https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my if suspicious calls are received” Ramli stated.
