M’sian Teacher Fined RM4,900 For Slapping, Throwing Chairs & Stuffing Paper In Students’ Mouths

A secondary school teacher was fined RM4,900 after pleading guilty to physically assaulting four of his students, including slapping them, throwing a chair, pulling their hair, and stuffing paper into their mouths.

Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar, who presided over the case, reminded the accused that his actions were not an acceptable way to discipline students.

Teacher pleads guilty to four charges

According to NST, Mohd Shapril Ahmad, 39, admitted to four charges of voluntarily causing hurt to his students when he appeared in court.

He was also warned that failure to pay the fine would result in a 13-month prison sentence.

For the first three charges, he was accused of slapping the faces of three 14-year-old students and throwing a chair at them during a lesson.

These incidents took place in a classroom at a secondary school in the district at 8.30am on Nov 13 last year.

These offences fall under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a RM2,000 fine, or both upon conviction.

The fourth charge involved another 14-year-old student, whom the teacher allegedly assaulted by hitting the back of his head, pulling his hair, and stuffing paper into his mouth. This incident occurred in a separate classroom at 8.30am on Nov 6 last year.

This charge was filed under Section 352 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum penalty of three months’ imprisonment, a RM1,000 fine, or both.

Parents report incident to authorities

The case came to light when the students’ parents received a call from the school’s principal, informing them that their children had been assaulted by their teacher.

Concerned for their children’s safety, the parents lodged a police report at the Muar district police headquarters.

Following the complaint, authorities launched an investigation, which led to the teacher’s arrest at 3pm on Nov 14.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Amieerah Alludeen, while the accused was represented by Nurain Sakina Zakri from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

Mohd Shapril has since paid the fine.
