M’sian Teacher Drives 338km Daily From Cyberjaya To Teach In Johor

"I'm sticking to it as I chose this path."
Teachers show dedication to their work in various ways, such as staying back after working hours to mark schoolwork, or spending extra time coaching a student who’s struggling with a certain subject.

But for Aisha Hassan, her dedication saw her going the extra mile (and even more) by driving all the way from Cyberjaya to Johor just to teach her students Science at a primary school.

M’sian teacher drives 338km daily across state borders

In a report by NST, Aisha Hassan gets up at 4am every day and departs from her home in Cyberjaya at 4.45am to a primary school in Kampung Durian Chondong, Bukit Kepong, Muar.

She usually reaches the school at 7.15am and returns home at 2pm, where the entire journey spans across a whopping 338km.

Speaking to the English daily, Aisha said this has been her routine for the past six months, adding that she chose to drive such a long distance as she didn’t want to relocate even though there was an option for her to rent a place near the school.

“The first two months were enjoyable, but now it’s starting to get tiring because I go through this routine five days a week (Monday to Friday).

“But I chose this path and decided not to move, so I have to stick with it no matter how exhausting it gets. So far, I’ve managed my time well and have gotten used to waking up early and driving long distances every day,” she said.

Not a secret

With such a long commute, Aisha said she sets aside a budget for travel expenses, including car maintenance costs, adding that a large part of it is spent on car tyres and other damage.

It’s not profitable at all, but I’m doing this out of responsibility and with the intention of serving, so I just keep going.

“My fellow teachers, school administrators, and students all know about my routine. I shared it on TikTok just for fun and didn’t expect it to go viral.”

Despite the fatigue that comes with the commute, Aisha said there are many like her who do the same in order to earn a living.

“I don’t think I’m the only one doing this, and to keep going, you need to be mentally and physically strong.

“I just focus on doing my job, and God willing, daily affairs will fall into place.”
