A teacher has drawn widespread attention after sharing her experience of being verbally insulted by a student, raising fresh discussions about respect for educators and the challenges of managing student behaviour in schools.
In a post on Threads, the teacher recounted an incident involving a Form Three male student who allegedly mocked her physical appearance by calling her “Doraemon,” a popular cartoon character.
She said she had tolerated the behaviour for some time before eventually confronting the student when an opportunity arose.
Broke down in tears and apologised
According to her post, she brought the student to the school discipline room and issued a stern warning, saying she would take action that could embarrass his family if he continued with the behaviour.
She claimed the student broke down in tears and repeatedly apologised during the session.
He was so frightened that he ended up wetting himself slightly. I later discovered that other teachers at the school had also been subjected to the student’s body-shaming, and they eventually broke down and apologised,” she said.
She said the incident took place in 2024 and that she has since transferred to another school.
Another teacher recounts being insulted
In the same discussion thread, another teacher shared her own experience of being publicly insulted by a student during a TikTok live broadcast.
She alleged that the student mentioned her by name during the livestream, used offensive language, and encouraged viewers to join in mocking her.
She said the student was upset after being marked absent for failing to submit a medical certificate for four days of missed school. The teacher also claimed the student had been vaping and using inappropriate language in school.
I still feel distressed seeing her at school,” the teacher wrote.
The posts sparked an outpouring of support from netizens, many of whom sympathised with teachers and acknowledged the difficulties educators face in handling student misconduct today.
Some commenters urged teachers to remain patient, while others noted that strict disciplinary action has become more complicated due to modern regulations and fear of legal repercussions.
