With the government unveiling the Budi95 targeted subsidy scheme which will come into effect on Sept 30, Malaysians are preparing for it by replacing their MyKad so that they can enjoy the subsidised pricing.
A netizen however, had a rather unusual suggestion in determining who is eligible to enjoy RM1.99 RON95 petrol: by basing it on how well they did for their SPM examination.
M’sian suggests using SPM cert instead of MyKad
In a Threads post, the netizen said she didn’t agree with the move to allow Malaysians to pump RM1.99 petrol into their vehicles using their MyKad.
I actually don’t agree with having to use your MyKad to pump fuel. It would be better to use the SPM certificate. That way, stupid people don’t need to pump fuel.”

However, the OP was quick to point out that her suggestion was merely a joke before cheekily adding that those who didn’t get the joke should “retake their SPM.”
What netizens think of suggestion
Despite the suggestion clearly being framed as a joke, netizens seemed to agree with it, with some even coming up with their own parameters in deciding who’s eligible and who’s not.
‘There’s no telling whether those who have a PhD, Masters, or degree are stupid. Stupidity is subjective.’

‘If petrol prices are to be determined by SPM results, then those who scored more A’s should enjoy cheaper petrol. This will make everyone study harder and there will be no stupid individuals.’

However, some felt that it was unfair for those who didn’t get to finish their studies due to unforeseen circumstances.

Speaking of which, here’s how you can check whether you’re eligible for cheaper petrol: (no SPM cert needed)
