First days are nerve-wracking for anyone. But for one new teacher in Belaga, Sarawak, her first day was made unforgettable when an entire school gathered at a jetty just to welcome her.
A TikTok video posted by a teacher known as Tok Ngulu shows teachers and students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Nanga Telawan, a school located deep in the interior patiently waiting at the riverside jetty for the new teacher to arrive.
Arriving by boat into a warm welcome
In the clip, a small boat slowly pulls up to the jetty. The moment the new teacher steps off, she is greeted with smiles and handshakes from the school staff and children who have formed a neat line to welcome her.
The boat operator and several male teachers also assist in carrying her belongings, showcasing the tight-knit community spirit often found in rural schools.
The video was captioned simply: “Welcoming our new teacher.”

The heartwarming moment quickly drew attention from Malaysians online, many of whom were moved by the warmth and appreciation shown to educators in the interior.
