A teacher recently took to social media to share his frustration after finding out that some parents would go as far as fabricating excuses to cover up their children’s absence from school.
He recalled one incident where a parent apologised in the class WhatsApp group, claiming that her child could not attend school that day due to heavy rain.

However, the teacher pointed out that the rain only started at 1pm, while the student was supposed to be in school by 12.20pm.
The twist came when he later asked the student directly why he was absent, where the boy admitted that he had actually overslept.
I asked him, ‘Why didn’t you come to school yesterday?’ He said, ‘Teacher, I only woke up at 2pm.'”

The teacher could not help but remark sarcastically, “Parents these days are really something. They even help their kids cover up mistakes.”
He added that it is not the first time he has encountered such cases, with many students with poor attendance often giving the same excuse.
Not just the students
Another teacher chimed in, saying the problem often goes deeper than just the children’s habits.
“In my class, students who come late or skip school often say they woke up late. When I asked more, I realised their whole family is used to waking up late. Some of them only show up to school twice a week,” the teacher said.
Both teachers agreed that skipping school cannot be blamed on students alone. Parents play a crucial role in setting discipline and routines at home.
They stressed that if parents fail to set an example, children will naturally not see the importance of attending school.
