Teacher’s Day gifts do not always have to be expensive to be remembered.
For three retired teachers in Malaysia, some of the most meaningful gifts they received from students were simple items, given with sincerity.
One of them was a used pencil and eraser.

Student said it was all he could afford
Retired teacher Muhammad Mustafa Abdul Salam, 58, shared that the most touching gift he had ever received throughout his teaching career was a used pencil and eraser from a student.
Reported by Harian Metro, he said that the student had included a note explaining that he could not afford to buy an expensive gift.
However, he still wanted the pencil and eraser to serve as a token of love from a student to his teacher.
The student wrote that he could not afford to buy an expensive gift. But he wanted the pencil and eraser to be a symbol of a student’s love for his teacher. When I read the note, I shed tears,” Mustafa said.

Teacher later bought him new school supplies
Moved by the student’s sincerity, Mustafa later bought the student new school supplies.
Despite the gift being used, he has kept the pencil and eraser until today.
For Mustafa, the small gift remains one of the sweetest memories from his 30 years of teaching at SK Taman Megah, SMK Assunta and SMK Lembah Subang.
It is also a reminder that a teacher’s sacrifices often leave a lasting impact on students.
And sometimes, the smallest gifts are the ones that stay in a teacher’s heart the longest.
