Rape is largely considered to be a heinous crime that calls for a heavy punishment as it leaves the victim physically and mentally scarred for life.
A college student in Negeri Sembilan was recently sentenced to only 240 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty to charges of rape, much to the anger of netizens who found the punishment too lenient.

According to a report by The Star, the accused was 19-year-old Muhammad Amirullah Zaazuren, who allegedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl at a house in Jempol just past midnight on Dec 30, 2024.
The girl was just three months away from her 15th birthday when the rape occurred.

Amirullah did not contest the charge framed under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code before Sessions Court judge Surita Budin, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.
Amirullah, who was unrepresented, requested for a lighter sentence in the form of a lower bond amount as his mother already had to service bank loan.
However, Judge Surita ordered Amirullah to serve 240 hours of community service within 12 months and to deposit RM4,000 collateral with the court.

He was also required to report at the nearest police station on the first of every month during the period and to attend counselling. If he were to move to another location, he must notify the Welfare Department.
Should he violate these terms and conditions or fail to fulfil the required community hours, Amirullah will be hauled back to court and charged under the principal offence.
Additionally, the RM4,000 collateral will also be forfeited.
Netizens outraged by sentence
Unsurprisingly, netizens weren’t too pleased with Amirullah’s punishment, with many saying he was let off too easily.
